Green Teacher History

Green Teacher magazine was launched in late 1986 by Damian Randle, who at the time was the Education Officer of the Centre for Alternative Technology in the UK in mid-Wales. Focussing on environment and development education, the magazine aspired to present a compendium of articles and activities useful to K-12 educators across the English-speaking world. Regional addresses were established in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

In early 1991, two Toronto high school teachers, Tim Grant and Gail Littlejohn left their teaching positions to launch a Canadian edition of Green Teacher from their home office. They recruited regional editors from all Canadian provinces and territories. A growing US readership gradually led to the magazine's becoming more North American in scope. Green Teacher is currently establishing a network of US regional editors.
