Calling All Canadians!
We Gotta Get Our Own Women's Health and Dioxin Act, eh?
|
Over the years, we've given a lot of information about tampons to health officials and elected representatives in Canada. We hoped that this information would be investigated and acted on appropriately. Well, we haven't seen anything significant happen . . . yet. Now that we can show them a number of American officials who are paying attention, we're inviting YOU to help get these people moving up here, and do what we're paying them to do. Below, you'll find links to various media and governments in Canada, and a few others that might help us to promote the issues to women who aren't online yet. YOU can affect the way the government deals with these important health issues by contacting politicians and the media. Demand action by the Canadian government! Together, we can move mountains!
Here's a sample letter to send as is, or to change to suit yourself: Dear ...........................................................,RE: THE POLITICS OF TAMPONS After reading through the information provided by the Terra Femme website, I became aware of Bills H.R.3796, "The Women's Health and Dioxin Act of 1996," as introduced to the U.S. Congress, and AB1963, to regulate the sale and manufacture of menstrual products. Canadian women must be given the opportunity to avoid unnecessary health risks whenever possible, and we expect our health to be a priority for our government. I am dismayed to learn that no Canadian representatives have raised the issues being addressed by Carolyn Maloney, Ted Weiss and Liz Figueroa to protect Canadian women and daughters. I ask that you investigate and act upon the available information, and immediately introduce legislative changes in Canada to determine the extent to which the presence of rayon and dioxin in tampons pose health risks to women, including the increased risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome and cervical cancer. Yours truly,
Your name
