Delegates

Delegates are the soul of the TA union. They are the primary information source for TAs in a Hiring Unit and meet regularly with the Union Council in order to direct its activities. There should be at least one delegate from each hiring unit. Check the list of delegates to see if your department is represented. If you are interested in becoming a delegate, contact AGSEM for more information.

One of the major responsibilities of Departmental Delegates is to review the tentative appointments made by the Hiring Units before contracts are sent out to TAs each semester, to ensure that correct hiring procedures have been followed.  Delegates receive a $50 honorarium once this process has been completed and the Verification Checklist has been received by AGSEM.

If you are a Delegate, contact the TA Coordinator or Administrative Officer who assigns TAships for your hiring unit, and set up a verification meeting.  This meeting typically takes place within 35 days after the deadline for TA applications each semester:

Application deadlines are usually:

-April 1 for Summer courses

-April 15 for Fall and Winter courses

-November 15 for Winter courses

N.B. You have the right to have another AGSEM representative present at this meeting.
