Members

Only current McGill graduate students can be members of AGSEM. If you are currently TAing, or have TAed in the past year, you are eligible to be a member of AGSEM. Even if you have not yet TAed, you may find some of these documents useful.

Application for TA position
These should be on or near the AGSEM bulletin boards during hiring periods. If, for some reason, you cannot get a hold of one there, you can download one here.

Orientation handout
This document (print it out on two-sided legal paper for easiest use) contains (almost) everything you need to know about becoming and working as a TA at McGill.

Union Membership form (english | french)
You should receive a membership form with your letter of offer for a TA position. Along with that letter of offer, the form must be filled out and sent back to your Hiring Unit. If you did not receive one, you can download one here and send it either to your Hiring Unit or directly to AGSEM (via McGill internal mail).

Salary rates for 2006
New rates come into effect January 1st, 2006.

TA workload form
One will be given to the course supervisor.

You must meet before, or early in, the semester with your course supervisor to fill one out and to discuss how your TA contract hours will be spent.

Both you and the course supervisor sign the form and it is then returned to your employment file in the Hiring Unit.

IMPORTANT: In cases of overwork or overtime, the workload form is the best tool to prove that you are working more hours than you are contractually obligated to.

In addition to the workload form, keep daily track of the work you are doing and the time it takes. If it becomes clear that the workload form's time estimates are not reasonable, talk to your supervisor and try to work things out.

If you cannot reach an arrangement with your supervisor, contact AGSEM.

Workload timesheet
This form is designed to help you keep track of your hours.

Refer to your workload form to keep track of how many hours each task should take.

Remember, if it looks as though you will work over your contract hours, be sure to meet with your course supervisor as soon as possible.

What happens to my Priority Pool Status if I take a leave of absence?
Good question! The FAQ should help.
