Canadian Ethnocultural Council

The Canadian Ethnocultural Council is coalition of groups representing ethnocultural groups across Canada. The Council is a long-time member of the Web Networks community, and they came to us when they needed a site they could easily manage themselves, and that would allow them to seamlessly publish their multilingual multimedia resources on Hepatitis C. ELLICSR

ELLICSR ("Electronic Living Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Cancer Survivorship Research") is a collaborative space for health, wellness and cancer survivorship research, located at Toronto General Hospital. Web Networks began to work with ELLICSR when it won the RFP to assist in creating an online resource and support network for childhood cancer survivors. While working on that project, ELLICSR wanted to launch a new corporate site, so we rapidly designed, prototyped and configured a new Drupal site for their team, viewable at http://www.ellicsr.ca

Local Union Media Association Online

"LUMA" is an amazing association of local Canadian Auto Workers volunteer activists who are passionate about getting an alternative message online in support of workers and social justice. Web Networks is proud to have partnered with LUMA to develop a new, open source Drupal powered website launched today on Web Networks' own Toronto-based servers. Our team developed a Drupal-based site that makes it easy for LUMA media activists to add Youtube videos, podcasts, images, and text to the site.

Common Thread Community Chorus

Common Thread Community Chorus is a unique soprano, alto, tenor, bass choir that promotes community and social justice through music.

The team at Web Networks worked with their volunteer committee to produce an attractive multimedia rich site, and is pleased to announce the launch of Common Thread's new Drupal-powered website, hosted on Web Networks' servers, viewable here.

Learning Inuktitut Online

Web Networks has partnered with Nunavut-based Piruvik Centre to launch Tusaalanga.ca, an immensely popular website for learning the Inuit Language that has been relaunched, offering new dialects and new features to learners of Nunavut’s largest language.

Those hoping to enhance their skills in Inuinnaqtun, the Nattilingmiut dialect of the Qitirmiut (Kitikmeot), the Paallirmiut dialect spoken in the southern Kivalliq or the North Baffin dialect, Aggurmiutut, now have access to a wealth of new materials.

Global Information Society Watch

The Association for Progressive Communication has partnered with Netherland-based Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation ("HIVOS") to produce a printed annual Internet Rights report with authors from all corners of the globe, called "Global Information Society Watch. Web Networks has launched their new website, and it is one of our best: striking design, integrated maps, intelligent content layout, on a fine-tuned multilingual Drupal platform. Nunavut Legislative Assembly and Languages Commissioner

The team at Web Networks is proud to announce the launch of new Drupal-powered websites for Nunavut's Legislative Assembly (the territory's elected governing institution) and the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut.

Both groups needed new graphic designs, an ability to easily update their sites, and ongoing training, technical support, and website hosting. 

Union Course Registration

Web Networks worked with the Professional Development staff of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) to move their course registration process online. We customized the Drupal shopping cart module, "Ubercart" to give ETFO's 70,000+ members a streamlined way to view available courses, and register and securely pay online.  We also provide ETFO with mission-critical website hosting and ongoing rapid-response technical support.

Mapping Activists Across Electoral Districts

Web Networks is pleased to announce the release of an addition to the "CiviCRM" constituent relationship management system that allows organizations to view their membership database and/or mailing list subscribers according to the Canadian electoral district in which they live.

Toronto School of Theology

Web Networks is proud to announce the launch of the new Toronto School of Theology's website, developed by our Drupal experts. The school is "the largest and leading ecumenical centre for theological education in Canada", and this project included intensive planning, graphic design, Drupal content management system configuration, as well as custom coding allowing easy import of course data.

We've Been Busy! New Websites Launched

The Web Networks website development team has been active working on projects for our progressive clients:

Pro Bono Students Canada, the world’s only national pro bono student organization. We migrated their current site to our user-friendly system.

Yodigo Tamil and English Field Test

Yodigo is a computer game that delivers literacy online and offline. Yodigo’s use of video and interactivity makes learning to read and write fun, and its rewards system compels learners through lessons, increasing their literacy level.

Infrastructure Upgrade

It’s happened mostly behind the scenes, but over the last year Web Networks has been building a completely Canadian-based, non-profit owned website and e-mail hosting infrastructure. Located at 151 Front Street, our new servers  have provided services for thousands of nonprofits and progressive organizations nationally, processing millions of message and website visits every month. We are proud of our successful hosting of the federal NDP site www.ndp.ca during the  recent election. If you are not hosting at Web Networks, you are probably supporting a U.S-based “web farm”.

Petition: E-Mail Your MP Tool

Web Networks is pleased to announce the launch of its new online advocacy tool, “Petition”. The Petition application plugs in seamlessly to any website, giving your members and site visitors a tangible action to take in support of your campaign—sending an e-mail to their Member of Parliament in Ottawa.

National Literacy Award for Web.Net Application

Web Networks is proud to announce that its "Tusaalanga" Inuktitut language online learning platform (developed using the open source "Drupal" system) has received the prestigious Council of the Federation literacy award. Tusaalanga is a project of the Pirurvik Centre, Web's partner in Attavik, which supports Inuktitut computing.

United Church of Canada's Emerging Spirit Goes Live

Web Networks created a highly interactive website for the United Church of Canada in support of its "Emerging Spirit" campaign, which focuses on "establishing and nurturing a relationship between the United Church and Canadians who don't attend church."

Web Community Resource Networks has upgraded its website! The new Web Networks website not only has updated information and resources for our community but it is also built on a Drupal plaftorm.

According to Oliver Zielke, Executive Director of Web Networks, "It's like the carpenter's house. We have been buidling Drupal sites from Nunavut to Vancouver to Guatemala to Nova Scotia for nonprofit groups and we finally got around to Drupalizing our own website."

Volunteers Build Church Website

Metropolitan United Church, located in downtown Toronto, is afamiliar landmark with an ambitious, diverse, and community-drivenapproach to modern spirituality. It also took a unique community-drivenapproach to building a website, partnering with Web Networks to undergoa process in which volunteers designed and built the site, and willcontinue to maintain it.

Drupal Usability Report Released

Since 2004, Web Networks has been using Drupal, an open source content management system (CMS), to develop such websites as ndp.ca, www.nac.nu.ca and www.ona.org, among others.

In the summer of 2006, The The Association for Progressive Communications engaged Web Networks to conduct a usability study on Drupal.
