What is EWB?
At the turn of the Millennium the people of world, through the United Nations, formulated the Millennium Development Goals aimed at halving world poverty by 2015.

Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) is a leading charitable organisation dedicated to meeting this challenge. Formed in 2000, we are Canada's fastest growing development organisation. To date we have sent more than 160 volunteers overseas who have helped thousands of people improve their own lives. Closer to home, our 15000 members across the country strive to raise awareness amoung Canadians about how they can make decisions that positively impact communities overseas and encourage the Canadian government to become a model global citizen by taking on a leadership role in poverty alleviation.

Our Mission
Engineers Without Borders promotes human development through access to technology.
Human development is about people: their desire and struggle to expand their freedoms and lead lives that they value. In this quest, access to appropriate technology plays a key role — every day, people work to improve their technology, laws, institutions and governance in the complex circumstances that poverty, alienation and voicelessness create.

Members of EWB are passionate about helping people gain access to the technologies that will reduce vulnerabilities and increase opportunities in developing communities. We do so by contributing our knowledge, financial resources, volunteer time, skills, and collective voice to help communities around the world.

Activities
Overseas Operations

EWB works in partnership with developing communities around the world, helping them to gain access to the appropriate technologies they need to improve their lives.

We focus on developing the capacity of the local technical sector to ensure that that innovative, appropriate and sustainable solutions to people's problems are locally generated and available.

Engaging Canadians
In today's inter-connected world sustainable development requires change at home. EWB engages Canadians to take actions to support sustainable development. In particular, our members seek to make Canada the most pro-development and sustainable country in the world. Through our education and outreach programs, we run one of Canada's most exciting engagement initiatives.

Our chapter

We believe that technology, when appropriately incorportared into each communities's social, cultural, economic and political contect, can drive extraordinatry change.
