The Global Visions Festival celebrates the power and artistry of documentary cinema; recognizing and promoting it as an important alternative media and education resource, valuable art form, and awareness tool.

Global Visions Festival Society seeks to open up space for alternative visions of a global ‘family’ and community that deals responsibly with issues of equity, power-sharing, diversity, environmental and social justice. As its’ primary event, the Global Visions Festival features current documentary films that showcase a wide array of issues concerning the lives and communities of people from around the globe. Documentary film is a creative and powerful medium for telling our stories; shedding a new light on our history, transcending the limitations of narrow world views, confronting the dominant discourse about the nature of society, building hope and cultural solidarity, reflecting on our individual and collective responsibility as citizens for nurturing a safe and caring community.

The 2001 Global Visions Festival was held November 8-12, 2001 in the Edmonton Arts District.
