The Multilateral Agreement on Investment (
)
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN
What YOU can do to stop the MAI!
From coast to coast concerned Canadians are working non-stop
to raise public awareness about the perils of the proposed Multilateral
Agreement on Investment (MAI). The deadline for signing this
treaty, being negotiated by the 29 countries which are members
of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD),
is this coming April.
Thanks to the hard work of dedicated Canadians across the
country, the Chrétien government is feeling the heat of
public opposition to the MAI. With the MAI deadline looming,
the next weeks are crucial for intensifying the pressure on the
Federal Government to withdraw from negotiations.
Here's how YOU can help:
- Write, fax, phone, visit your elected representatives...
and then do it again! Contact with politicians at all levels
of government - local, provincial, federal - is crucial. The message
must come through loud and clear that Canadians are opposed to
the MAI. Use the list provided below to contact key federal cabinet
ministers.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper expressing
your concerns about the MAI. (The National Campaign Issue factsheets
can help out.)
- Circulate the anti-MAI petition and return it to the National
Campaign office.
- Participate in anti-MAI coalitions already
organized in your community. Contact the National Campaign office
to find out how.
- Educate yourself and others about the MAI.
Distribute information about the MAI in your community and talk
to everyone you know.
