The 2nd People’s Summit (Quebec city, April 16th to 21st) marks the culmination of many years of popular organizing throughout the Americas.It will consolidate the expanding movement confronting corporate led globalization that has emerged since the 1st People’s Summit (Santiago, Chile 1998). The 2nd People’s Summit will create a space and an opportunity for progressive civil society from north and south, to come together as equals. During the Summit we will debate, define new strategies for the Americas and create new alliances. The Summit will be another crucial step in the process of developing Alternatives. The Summit programme will include sectoral and thematic forums, cultural and political events, workshops, a teach-in and a March of the Americas. Together we will continue to build a broad based and democratic movement of the peoples of the Americas. This Hemispheric Social Alliance will serve as a counterwieght to corporate-led globalization and give leadership in creating another Americas. For more info: Le Sommet des peuples Le 2ème Sommet des peuples (Québec, 16 au 21 avril) est le point culmunant de nombreuses années d’organisation populaire à travers les Amériques. Le sommet renforcera le mouvement d’opposition à la mondialisation néolibérale qui a émergé suite au 1er Sommet des peuples (Santiago, Chili 1998), et qui n’a cessé de croître depuis. Le 2ème Sommet des peuples va créer un espace et l’opportunité pour les composantes progressives de la societé civile du nord comme du sud à se rencontrer en tant qu’égales et égaux. Tout au long du sommet, nous débaterons de grandes questions sociales, définirons de nouvelles strategies pour les Ameriques et créeront de nouvelles alliances. Le sommet est un autre grand pas dans le processus de développement d’ alternatives. Le programme du sommet inclue une serie de forums thématiques, des événements culturels et politiques, des tables rondes, un “teach-in” et la Marche des peuples des Amériques. Ensemble, nous continuerons à construire un mouvement démocratique et représentatif des peuples des Amériques. Cette Alliance sociale continentale servira de contre-poids à la mondialisation néolibérale, et sera notre voix dans la création de nouvelles Amériques. the FTAA Trade Negotiating Committee, This letter demands that the FTAA negotiating texts be released publicly. This letter has been signed by over 300 organizations from throughout the Americas. This letter was released in Canada on Nov.7 that press conferences in Ottawa and Montreal and on Nov.14th in a press conference in Quebec City.
