Movement to Save Medicare Sweeping the Province

31 Cities and Counting!

Sault Ste. Marie - "Save Our Public Medicare!" banners will be hung on city buses. Seniors will make a presentation to  City Council to promote a supporting municipal resolution.

Sudbury - Campaign Office Grand Opening very soon. Also, watch for the City Council resolution!

Owen Sound - Look out! Save Public Medicare Convergence coming in late March.

Woodstock - Letters are being sent to all community doctors . A City Council resolution is in progress.

Thunder Bay - "Save Canadian Medicare" forum featuring life before medicare is upcoming. 5,000 inserts are planned for the Thunder Bay Post and public service announcements are in the works.

Sarnia - Welcome Sarnia, the latest community to join! Save Medicare Plenary will be held in late March.

London - Look for the upcoming grand opening of the campaign office. Maude Barlow's "Profit Is Not The Cure tour, in London in early April, is shaping up to be a big success. 1,000 tickets are sold so far. Weekly leafleting at the movie "John Q" is keeping area activists hopping!

Chatham - Committees are set up and planning is movin'on up! Watch for upcoming office opening.

Windsor - The grand opening of the campaign office is planned along with movie nights and an All Candidates Meeting on health care. Lots of lawn signs are upcoming!

Kitchener-Waterloo - A public meeting on April 8th is on the ticket with the theme "Save Universal Health Care" at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex at 7pm.

St. Catharines - A New Orleans -style funeral march for Medicare will open the campaign office in early April. Mall displays are ongoing. Campaign t-shirts are all the rage!

Toronto - A week long teach-in at the University of Toronto in early April will feature bag-lunch workshops, debates & forums. Over 90 community agencies signed on to the campaign and joined a lively press conference to endorse it. Excitement is building for the upcoming Romanow hearings in early April.

Ottawa - A huge and successful plenary launched the campaign. A City Council resolution is moving forward with unanimous endorsement from the Health, Recreation, and Social Services Committee of the City of Ottawa. Partner groups are gearing up for Romanow's hearings on April 4 . Radio ads will run throughout the week prior to the hearing.

North Bay - North Bay joined the cross province launch on March 5 and has been quick to action with a "Public Services or Private Profit?" forum.

Timmins - Campaign bookmarks are in the works featuring the principles of the Canada Health Act "which one would you give up?" A skilled steering committee is looking into campaign offices throughout their huge riding.

Peterbourgh - A sizeable and enthusiastic plenary kicked off this campaign. Activists are looking forward to work with school children on what Medicare means. ...

Oshawa - Planning includes a fundraising dinner and the Grand Opening of the Campaign Headquarters in mid-April. Leafleting is being planned at local theatres when the movie "John Q" opens.

Lindsay - An energetic and productive plenary meeting featured hospital, nursing home workers & members of the community gearing up for leafleting, and outreach to Fenlon Falls.

Burlington - A mall booth at area malls will raise the campaign profile in the community. A public meeting is in the planning for mid April.

Guelph - Over 75 attended a Town Hall meeting in late March. A planned banner across the main street and the upcoming campaign office opening are building excitement.

Port Colbourne - Look out for a meeting in early April with Niagara Falls, Welland and Fort Erie to launch the campaign.

Fort Erie - Niagara - The Hands Across the Boarder conference in early April includes a feature on health issues.

Welland - The first city to pass a Municipal Council resolution in support -Way to Go Welland!

Brampton - The coalition has confirmed the office space. A series of public meetings and rallies to keep Brampton's hospitals public have captured area MPPs'and community members'attentions. Way to go!

Hamilton - Opening of the Campaign Office at month's end turns up the heat as work continues with the City Council to get an endorsement for the campaign.

Kingston - Campaign Office official opening is set for April 8 complete with a brand new campaign banner. Other events in the works include a banner across the main street, a resolution to municipal council and community-organization endorsements. Wow!

Brockville - Over 50 people attended a lively kickoff. Planning for events and outreach is in progressing very well indeed!

Renfrew - Car pools are set to take people to the Ottawa Romanow hearings and a dedicated team of organizers are hard at work planning the campaign.

Bowmanville - Local seniors are raring to go after a trip to Oshawa's plenary and a forum in Bowmanville.

Cobourg - Lots happening in this campaign! Watch for the opening of the campaign office, a planned phone poll and petitions & mall displays. A Municipal Resolution is on its way.
