On the Move to Save Public Medicare
Action and Events All Over Ontario as Grassroots Campaign Takes Off
In an unprecedented show of support for National Public Medicare, dozens of Ontarians are phoning in to get their community involved in the Campaign to Save Public Medicare. Hearst, Kenora, Red River, Fort Frances, Rideau Lakes Township, Campbellford, Sioux Lookout, Midland, Aurora, Brighton, Port Hope, and Milton are among the latest in a slew of communities that are jumping on board. All told, there are now over 50 communities, affecting over 70 electoral ridings, involved in the biggest Ontario Health Coalition campaign ever.
Canvassers are being trained across the province, city councils are unanimously proclaiming May 15 National Public Medicare Day and thousands of committed volunteers are getting petitions signed, putting up ribbons, hosting mall displays, informing workmates, and chipping in to do their bit. Excitement is building as canvassers are taking to the streets in 'blitz crews' to talk to neighbours. Signs are popping up on lawns and red "National Public Medicare" ribbons are showing up on trees, balconies and front doors from Kenora to Cornwall and from Windsor to Hearst.
Events will culminate on May 15 - National Medicare Day - when communities across the country will join communities across Ontario to hold symbolic actions in support of universal one-tier public Medicare.
