Protest Challenges Alliance Fundraiser For
Health Care Privatization Comments

TORONTO- Calling for quality public hospital care, the Ontario Health Coalition will issue a direct challenge to Tony Fell, Board Chair of the University Health Network, at a demonstration on Saturday, October 28, at 12pm at Toronto General Hospital, University Street entrance.

Tony Fell who co-sponsored the recent lavish Alliance Party fundraiser in Toronto is also Chair of RBC Dominion Securities Corp. In a controversial speech at a recent general meeting of the network, Fell called for Alberta-style health privatization to be brought to Ontario. Former Alliance leadership candidate Tom Long is also on the Board of the University Health Network.

This event is part of the Ontario Health Coalition's province wide campaign to draw attention to the Chretien-Harris records on health care. Events will be held in 14 centres across the province, from Thunder Bay to Toronto and from Cornwall to Windsor. Attention will be drawn to local issues in each community including: jammed emergency rooms, long line-ups for cancer care, discriminatory travel grants, staffing crises in homecare, bed shortages, and costly privatization schemes.
