First Ministers Under Public Scrutiny

Concerned Citizens Cross-Ontario Plan Health Care "Watch" Events

The first ministers (premiers, territorial leaders, aboriginal leader & prime minister) will be meeting in Ottawa Monday September 13 to Wednesday September 15. For the first time, these meetings will be televised across the country. PM Paul Martin wants to use them to create a 10 year health plan. Issues at stake such as national pharmacare and homecare, national standards and strings for health care and stopping privatization will impact millions of people.

Citizens are organizing local "First Ministers Watch" events across the country. Local spokespeople will be available to receive calls (or pick up messages frequently and return calls) from local media. In addition, on Tuesday, September 14 from 12 - 4:30 pm or later, a "First Minister Watch" event in which a group of local health activists and friends get together to watch the negotiations on TV, to debate and discuss the negotiations, and to be available to comment to the media. This will be happening all across Canada at the same time.
