: Q. pamphlet files at the printers are in quark xpress and are the only final copy version of pamphlets. now we want to update - can these files be converted into files that can be used with wordperfect?
Hello Jane,
Interesting dilemma. QuarkXPress is a high end Desktop publishing program, an industry standard among professional service bureau’s and graphic designers.
WordPerfect is a primarily a word processor, however the advancements have become so sophisticated that it can easily be used for basic layout of pamphlets and newsletters.
Unfortunately, there is not direct import function in WordPerfect for QuarkXPress files. While you may not be able to simply open up your old document, there are some other options available.
If you open up the publication in QuarkXPress, you are able to export the text as RTF (Rich Text Format) files. RTF allows you to maintain font, alignment and other text attributes. WordPerfect should be able handle it as long as the fonts are the same or similar. Make sure both applications have the hyphenation turned off before you start.
Graphics will have to be pulled into WordPerfect from the original graphics file, not from QuarkXPress.
If you have Adobe PageMaker, there is also another option. There are add-ons for Adobe PageMaker called ‘converters’. They enable you to convert QuarkXPress publications to Adobe PageMaker publications. The converter opens QuarkXPress publications created in Mac OS or Windows and maps QuarkXPress elements to corresponding elements in PageMaker. The converter is available from the Adobe web site @ www.adobe.com
Hope this helps!
