The Union Backdraft Guide
The official drink of Canadian union newsletter editors

What you need...

Step 1/ Pour approximately 1 ounce of room temperature, white sambuca into a short, wide rimmed drinking glass.
Step 2/ Swirl the contents of the glass around so that it equally covers the sides of the glass.
Step 3/ Tilt the glass at a 45 degree angle and ignite the sambuca in the glass. Allow to burn for approximately 10 seconds ( not too long or all the alcohol burns off !)
Step 4/ Lick (yes lick) the palm of your hand and cover the top of the glass with it. Don't worry, the sambuca flame is a cool burning flame and won't hurt you!

Step 5/ Once you cover the top of the glass with your palm, the flame will extinguish ( the oxygen has burnt off) and create a suction seal between your palm and the glass ( That's why you licked your palm, to create a better seal )

Step 6/ QUICKLY lift your hand, drink the sambuca in the glass, and QUICKLY place your hand back on top of the glass. This is a critical part of the procedure, and must be done in around 2 seconds.

Now the fun part, and the reason for doing all this silly stuff...

Step 7/ Slip the straw in between your hand and and the glass and inhale the vapors remaining left in the glass.

Step 8/ Buy another round and repeat as desired ;-)
