Activities accelerated this year showing the energetic pace this non-profit organization is moving at to fulfill its mission. Starting with a progressive display at the Annual Organic Conference at the University of Guelph, manned by several of our volunteers, we were able to sign up a considerable number of new members. Following an invitation from the Guelph University Students Council to participate in their Environmental Symposium the Co-ordinator held a well-attended workshop on "People Power - the New Energy Solution" in early February. |

To update information on Renewable Energy Policies in Europe the Co-ordinator attended two Renewable Energy Congresses, one near Stuttgart, Germany, and one in Wels, Austria, during March and April. In his absence CFRE volunteers staffed a display and information booth at the Oakville Ecofest in early April. Presentations to raise awareness of the benefits of clean and safe renewable on-site energy generation were made on request at the Golden Ki Club in Owen Sound in late April and at the AGM of the Concerned Citizens of King Township (CCKT) in May. CFRE's 6th Annual General Meeting took place at our favourite location, the Environmental Learning Centre of the K-W YMCA near St. Clements Sunday, May 26. It was combined with a workshop on Energy Deregulation issues presented by four speakers. Attendance was slightly lower than normal due to inclement weather. Three of our board members elected to serve for another term, the fourth decided to resign due to family commitments and was replaced by Prof. Charles Middleton, from the Gravenhurst region. June was another busy month with a 2-day exhibition of our display material at the Health Canada Environment Fair in Ottawa, the Windfall Environment Day in Newmarket and participation at the International Shared Waters Symposium in Hamilton as well as observing the workshop discussions on the Nuclear Waste Act at the University of Guelph. One dedicated CFRE volunteer staffed a display booth at the Pelee Island Environment Fair and the Co-ordinator took part in the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association Planning Retreat in July. August saw our 3rd Demonstration Site Tour kindly hosted by the SolWind Enerco team of Goderich and in September four volunteers helped staff a large display at the Annual Feast of Fields Organic Event near Orangeville. Also in September CFRE was in attendance at the Grand River Water Forum in Cambridge and the Extended Producer Workshop in Toronto. The Ontario Environment Network Fall Conference took place in October and CFRE was there, we had a successful presence at the 2-day Green Power Trade Show in Toronto and the Co-ordinator was one of the presenters at the Hazelton Lanes Health Symposium. Two exciting events took place in November: The Huron Wind Farm opening at the Bruce Nuclear site and the 1.8 MW Ferndale Wind Turbine, a private investor's project was inaugurated on the Bruce Peninsula. Also in November the Co-ordinator was invited to the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance Gala Event in Toronto with David Anderson, Minister of the Environment as keynote speaker. Presentations were made at several hearings of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission regarding licence renewals and Environmental Assessment decisions in June, September and December in Ottawa on behalf of CFRE. Our newsletters went out in April, June, September and December, and our publication CFRE: You Asked Us was in such hot demand that we had to reprint it several times. And our "Happy Face" T-shirts are being proudly worn, not only in Ontario, but also in different parts of Canada, the U.S.A. and Germany. A large number of new members came to us through our web site. Thanks to all our board members and dedicated volunteers and especially to those generous donors CFRE had another successful year!
