Escarpment Telecom (Renewable Telecom, when CFRE is the partner charity)
You can help Citizens for Renewable Energy (CFRE) raise money simply by phoning people long-distance when you use Escarpment Telecom as your long-distance phone carrier. (You may have heard of "Renewable Telecom"--this is what Escarpment telecom is called when the "partner charity" identified is CFRE.) By using Renewable Telecom, 10% of every phone bill payment goes to CFRE, and 10% goes to the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy.
There are two plans that interest most people. They are as follows:
- (within Canada) $20 monthly maximum, with an 800 minutes maximum. Phone calls cost 10 cents/min 6 pm to 8 am and weekends (to a maximum of $20). Between 8 am and 6 pm on weekdays, they cost 15 cents/minute.
- (within Canada) 10 cents/minute any time, any day.
Calls to the USA cost 15 cents/minute. Calls overseas have low flat rates (if you are interested in any specific countries, please call the number below to find out the rate).
Also, you get a tax receipt for 10% of your phone bill. This is for the money that is contributed to conserve the Niagara Escarpment. Another 10% goes to a partner charity (e.g. CFRE)--you do not get a tax receipt for this because CFRE is not a registered charity.
If you are interested, you can telephone 1-416-960-8121, go to the Escarpment Telecom web page or send an email to rbarnett@escarpment.ca . Remember to state that you wish CFRE to be your partner charity!
