September is almost here and choir will be starting up soon! Our first rehearsal of the '99-00 season will be on Monday, September 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ladies' Parlour of Eglinton United Church. At our first practice, we will re-visit some old favourites as well as start work on our fall program.
Mark your calendars now! The annual Choir Cocktail Party will take place on Saturday, October 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 64 Belgravia Avenue. Our choir calendar is already starting to fill up with singing engagements. The Upper Canada Choristers are in demand.
Our December fund-raising concert will take place on Friday, December 10. The program will include two major works; Vivaldi's Gloria and John Rutter's Brother Heinrich's Christmas. As well, there will some other selections suitable for the holiday season.
We have made tapes of the individual vocal parts of the Gloria this summer. Those of you who would like copies should bring tapes for dubbing. I also recommend that you consider getting a full recording of this work with orchestra and choir to increase your understanding of and appreciation for this fine work. Many of you sang this a few years ago, but how many of you remember that is was the first work our choir performed in 4 parts? Is was the birth of the tenor section! With our increased vocal experience, we should be able to do a great performance.

Sing-Along Messiah
No, this is not an Upper Canada Choristers concert but many of our choir members enjoy participating in this annual outing. This year's concert, put on by Tafelmusik, is on Sunday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Massey Hall.
Tickets are approximately $20 and can be purchased in advance. We usually gather outside at 1 p.m. so that we can sit together. Music is available for sale at the concert if you do not have a copy of Handel's Messiah.
