LEARNING CONTRACT & SUPERVISOR’S EVALUATION
of STUDENT’S PERFORMANCE re PLACEMENT GOALS AND TASKS
INTRODUCTION:
Adult learners learn best when they are involved in planning their learning experience and in shaping their learning goals. Use this Learning Contract to negotiate goals and tasks with your field supervisor. This Learning Contract will be used by you, your faculty advisor, and your field supervisor, as one of the tools for evaluating your progress in the field. It is a working document, to be used as a road map and reference tool, rather than as a contract written in stone that cannot be changed to meet evolving needs of student and placement organization.
Your Learning Contract is divided into two main parts:
Part A) Field Placement Goals - to be developed in consultation with and to be evaluated by
your field supervisor (see attached example, Field Placement Document 2 -7).
Part B) Your Personal Development Goals – developed by the student and submitted to your
Faculty Advisor (see example, Field Placement Document 4 -7).
PROCEDURE FOR DEVELOPING FIELD PLACEMENT GOALS:
1. Discuss with your field supervisor what learning opportunities are available in this placement.
2. In consultation with your field supervisor, set a minimum of four (4) goals that reflect the skills and knowledge, which you wish to learn. Be sure that your goals meet the following criteria:
· All goals are clearly stated.
· All goals should be achievable in this placement in the current semester.
· All goals are stated in positive terms, stressing what you want to learn.
· Goals should be specific, stating what skills and knowledge you plan to develop and practice.
3. In consultation with your supervisor, develop a list of tasks that you will complete at your placement during this semester that will enable you to meet each learning goal.
4. In consultation with your supervisor, note the key factors that will be considered in evaluating your performance of these tasks.
5. Complete a final word processed copy of the learning contract. Make three (3) copies, sign them and have your supervisor sign them.
6. Give one signed copy of the learning contract to your supervisor, one to your faculty advisor and keep one for your files.
