This is a unique full-time, two-year program designed
to enhance and develop experience and skills
in community organizing, advocacy, facilitation
and popular education.
A field work placement component
is a major part of the program
and provides real experience and contacts in the field.

OUR PROGRAM
The Community Worker Program enables people with a commitment to community
work and social justice to enhance and develop their knowledge and skills.
Graduates of this program do front line work with individuals, families and
community service organizations. They work also with community groups that need
help in identifying and taking action on community issues. The program consists
of classroom instruction and field work practice. Emphasis is placed on learning
by sharing ideas and experiences. Each student is expected to be mature and
self-directed, and to have a commitment to social justice and human rights.
Your Career
Graduates are employed in front line social services such as
shelters, immigrant and refugee services, advocacy programs, community programs,
international solidarity work and in organizations that develop community
services such as day care and housing.
Your Future Study Options
Students who successfully complete this program may qualify for
advanced standing in social work, social science and sociology programs at York
University, in Community Economic and Social Development at Algoma University
College, in the Bachelor of Applied Arts in Human Services Management at
Loyalist College, Belleville, and in the Social Service Worker and Assaulted
Women's and Children’s Counsellor/Advocate Programs at George Brown College.
Advanced standing in other degree programs may be available.
