Minister's Message
Dear Friend,
Greetings in the name of Christ!
Welcome to
our website! We're so glad you decided to drop by.
Not too
many people out there really know much about the Disciples of Christ in
Canada. We're not the biggest denomination here, although we have been
serving the Canadian Maritime people since 1811. We started as a group of
folks who didn't agree with the way "church" was being done way back
then. We didn't like that people were excluded from church and that
certain groups felt they had a monopoly on truth.
In these
respects we haven't changed since those early days -- everyone is welcome in
our community regardless of whether or not you have ever been to church
before. And we don't claim to have the only truth -- just a desire to
seek God's will in the here and now, all the while serving those of our greater
community who need to experience God's love in action.
Disciples
(as we are known here in Canada & the US) have always focused on living out
faith to the fullest, reaching out and wrapping arms of compassion, caring and
community around all people regardless of race, creed, culture, gender, sexual
orientation, age or ability. We believe God wants creation to whole
again. We believe God wants there to be justice and peace. We believe
that God can be known in different ways and is constantly being revealed to us
through scripture, worship, prayer and the relationships with each other and
creation that we nurture.
I
cordially invite you to come and check us out. We worship in a
traditional style with some contemporary elements in sanctuaries that were
lovingly crafted more than 120 years ago but still resound with joyous praise
and excitement for the things of God, soaked in the deep spirituality and
vibrancy of the witness and memory of those who have gone before.
We are
here to serve. We are here to explore. We are here to witness to
the grace of God, the love of Jesus and the companionship of the Holy Spirit,
and invite your questions and comments, your feedback and your queries.
