International Projects of Human Support
Humanism is not humanitarianism. That is, with all our international support projects,
it's not a matter of sending money and supplies from one country to the other, but rather
of working together to organize real and sustainable projects where no one party simply
sits on the "receiving" end of help. Traditional humanitarian work too often
treats the other as a passive subject, dehumanizing the people and fostering a sense that
problems can only be solved by appeals to external agents (the UN, the gods, international
charities, NGOs, etc.).
In all our international support projects - projects addressing the basic needs of humanists in developing
countries - the key is reciprocity: "You benefit, so then you work to benefit others.
You learn, so then you teach others."
No need to mention that all these projects are also entirely organized and financed by members in the respective
countries.
In Toronto, we are connected to humanist groups in Cameroon, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
