Who We Are -- The Basics
Humanists are people who strive to live more coherently. We try to think, feel and act in the same direction, and to treat others as we want to be treated.
Together, we make up the Humanist Movement. The HM is not an institution, political party or religious group. It is an activist current of New Humanism, a broad-based movement that works for change on both the personal and social levels. New Humanism affirms the equality of all human beings and rejects violence and discrimination in all its forms. It emphasizes the need for cultural and personal diversity, and upholds freedom of thought and belief.
Members of the Movement aspire to a world where the human being becomes society's central value; a world where gods, the State, institutions, economic factors, or beliefs cannot be placed above the human being.
We are people who believe in human beings, in the possibility of a better world, and we're working to make it happen.
