The young cyclist with the funky Koday
baseball cap reaches into his back-pocket to provide ID to the
cop
who is about to give him a
ticket. He is lucky to be male I guess. He is only geting ONE ticket. The
two
women before him each got TWO.
The Mass which by now had shrunk to about 50 riders stops in solidarity. The
other cops line up along the sidewalk to watch. A local resident walks by and
tells the cops that their full
of
shit and manny massers voice the agreement. Before the cop has even finshed
writing the ticket Davis and
others
collect money for Michael's ticket. The crowd cheers as the money is delivered
to Michael who smiles, a bit in disbelief.
One of the massers blows a platic
horn. It's loud. A cop on the sidewalk freaks out. He steps forward and
yells;
"Shut up with that. You're
bothering the police officer
writing
a ticket."
"Oooh. Music is
illegal.", another masser jokes in
reply.
The cop continues to write
the ticket.
"Yeah, honey. I had a
nice day. I wrote a cyclist a
ticket
for riding his
bicycle."
Another massers pipes in.
We all laugh at that one. The cop finally hands Michael the ticket and we
continue
down Church singing an
alternate version of Yellow Submarine:
'We all live in a fascist regime,
fasicst regime, fascist
regime.'
There were 170 riders and
many first timers. Michael chose to ignore his ticket since he does not have a
license and will not be in town again for quite a while. He is a student in
Halifax. He says that he will use the money collected to really get CM going out
east.
