Olmo vs. Trek

Bloor Street, Tuesday 3:40PM

"Olmo is having a nice day of rolling along the streets in the sunshine.
Heading east along Bloor toward Christie, a roadie in full gear pulls
up beside me on a high-priced Trek bike at the Montrose traffic light.

He looks down at the Olmo less than impressed. He pulls ahead and
the Olmo follows slowly. Suddenly the Olmo speeds up, catches
the Roadie and rides beside him. The roadie looks over and steps
harder onto his pedals. Before I know Olmo is in its secret top gear
and the race is on. My faux-Birkenstock sandals are threatening to
fall off from the furious pedalling. Olmo grimaces but stays headset
to headset with the Trek. I look up and realize that Bathurst would
be the finish of this sprint. With a final aching push Olmo just pulls
ahead of the bigger Trek. The race over the Roadie and his Trek pass
us just west of Bathurst.
He looks over puzzeled as if to say:
"What the hell?"
