on this website: ARC

Tues. afternoon
Lawrence G.
$110 for stop sign.

Tuesday evening
Gene M., ticket for no bell.

Thursday morning
Yohan G.
Tickets for him and his girlfriend at the same time, $110 for
rolling through a stop sign.

"This morning, around 7:30, southbound on Russell Hill road.
Just south of St Clair, at the top of the hill, at a T intersection.
Woman ahead of me also got ticketed. I definitely slowed down, may not
have completely stopped.

The ticket has a box "motor vehicle involved", which was checked yes.
A bike is not a motor vehicle under the HTA, and no where on the ticket
does it say bike, so I may ask for a court date."

Hello,
I came across your website just now after receiving an astounding *three* tickets on my way home from work on my bike in the new 'ride safe' program implemented by the Toronto police.
I read your report on bicycling in Toronto 2004 and was most interested in the section on policing ...
... this campaign by the police is completely ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time.

Regards,
-Nicholas.-

"I was given a $110 ticket this morning, for failing to stop at a stop sign, as part of the Police's participation in some Cycling week campaign (or so the Policeman informed me), and I am outraged! No warning, just a (extremely large and unreasonable) fine.

Two policemen had set a "speed trap" at the bottom of the Don Jail roadway, where it is a well-used short cut, to cut the corner of Broadview and Gerrard. It seems clear there was a mandate to conduct a mass-ticketing campaign to “celebrate” this event"
