CM goes Greek (by Darren Stehr)
Our po-lice escort was very small this month and
for the most part
seemed to be a little
green behind the ears. This did not stop us from
going to day to Pride Day celebrants nor for
the first time visit Greektown.
Our poor escorts seemed very confused at what
they should do at the
front of CM, they
spend most of the time hugging the curb up Bay St.
On Bay we turned on Gerrard and headed over
to Church St, again
our poor escort did not
know what to do as they said they were out of
their area of responsibility. We then headed
over the Bloor viaduct to
help Greektown
celebrate Greece's soccer win.
It was
a beautiful sight as CM crossed the DVP for the first time ever.
The Dan was awash with people dancing and
waving flags. I unfortunately
embarrassed
one poor 'annoyed at the celebrants' guy in a $200 000 Ferrari
when I told him he spent a lot of money for
a car to sit in traffic.
We stopped to
watch some people dance and throw around a soccer ball.
This of course confused our escort and a cop
told me to move everyone
along also that we
should turn around because there were po-lice horses
ahead.
I went through the old spiel of that
CM has no leader and that I liked horses
and
I wanted to visit. This just dumbfounded him and he asked how it all
worked as is his orders were just to follow
us.
I do not think I will ever tire of
telling that we are leaderless - it just confuses
them so much. We dismounted and walked by
the nice horsies - yes riot ready
horses for
people celebrating a soccer win??? -
the
street was filled with middle aged guys and their kids. We got to Pape Ave
and tried to figure out what to do. Finally
a vote was called and it was beer.
Somehow
our po-lice escort knew exactly where to send us and we enjoyed
our beer.
Slick invited them to come but they politely
declined. Before we parted company
Doug Lee
asked our escorts for their thoughts on Fantino's departure. They just
giggled a bit and said no
comment.
