June 28th is your chance to save Car Free Day.
A strong showing of support is critical at the next
meeting of the Toronto Atmospheric Fund on June 28th
at 9:30am. Please bring friends and family!

Sierra Club of Canada - Ontario Chapter is calling on
supporters of Car Free Day across Toronto to show
their support at the next meeting of the Toronto
Atmospheric Fund, where it will be decided whether Car
Free Day is funded this year.

BACKGROUND
International Car Free Day is celebrated in over 1500
cities by 100 million people annually on September 22.
It is a time when streets in downtown urban areas are
closed to cars and opened to people. In a period of
unprecedented smog and climate change, Car Free Day is
more important than ever.

At a recent meeting, the grants and loans committee of
the Toronto Atmospheric Fund recommended not to fund
Car Free Day in Toronto this year. The board, however,
makes the final decision on which projects are to be
funded, and will do so on June 28th. With 4 city
councillors on the board of the Toronto Atmospheric
Fund, your voice can make a difference. While Car Free
Day has lept forward in cities like Montreal, Toronto
is on the verge of creating a vaccuum where Car Free
Day has been since 2001.

The Toronto Atmospheric Fund has a choice to help this
critical event continue to grow, or to abandon it. We
need your help to ensure that they make the right
choice.
