Go for the alley ...

CM goes Greek (by Darren Stehr)

Our po-lice escort was very small this month and for the most part
seemed to be a little green behind the ears. This did not stop us from
going to day to Pride Day celebrants nor for the first time visit Greektown.

The guys across the street

They've been working on some bikes for months now.
Once in a while they'd come across the street for a coffee, grinning
sheepishly. Now I know why.

Big Heads (by Michael Canzi)

Went on a ride last year where one of the marshalls
berated cyclists for riding in a crosswalk between two
section of an off-road trail.
"Are you cyclists or pedestrians?"

'Cycle Right' almost over

ARC's lawyer Tim Gleason writes:

"The police cannot randomly stop you to see if you are breaking
any laws - it is a violation of your Charter rights (s. 7, 8).

This went to the Supreme Court of Canada in the drunk driving cases and
the Court found that random stops did violate the Charter, but were justified
for drunk driving spot checks because of the vast carnage on the roads
attributable to drunk driving. In those cases there was a lot of evidence
about the carnage part - something that would not be available re bells.

NOW has interesting article on the campaign.

John Pucher

With all this 'Cycle Right' crap on the road, this is a good read.
You know what?
We are heroes for riding a bike in this town.
We SHOULD get special treatment like great bike parking,
access to GO, VIA, TTC whenever we want it, amazing bike lanes ...
Exemptions on riding the wrong way and advance lights ...

John Pucher rocks!

Break Out the Bicycles
Oil is Running Out, But the West Would Rather Wage Wars than Consider Other Energy Sources
by George Monbiot

Some people have wacky ideas," the new Republican campaign ad alleges. "Like taxing gasoline more so people drive less. That's John Kerry." Cut to a shot of men in suits riding bicycles.

Blog Changes

Managed to salvage the archives of this Blog. What a relief.
I am now starting the long process of re-creating the Blog. Along the way I will be hopefully improving
the Blog's structure including 'best of' sections and organizing the entries into new categories which
many have told me they enjoyed most like bike stories and guest diary entries ...

'Cycle Right' is back!

Starting June 6 the Police will run its annual 'Cycle Right' campaign. Last year
the police was in fine form handing out tickets to just about anyone on two wheels.
This year, at the request of Fantino, the campaign will be launched at Dundas
and Dupont, the intersection where Galen died last month. Nice touch.

Bike Week Fun

ARC's annual 'You Are A Hero - Fortune 500' day was a big success.
Hundreds of fortune cookies were passed out to happy cyclists during
rush hour at various locations in downtown Toronto.
"Thank you for biking, Happy Bike Week."

More fun last night at the Parking Meter Party. I think the photos speak
for themselves. Big thanks to CBN and the Rick's Samba band.
