Here to stay

Bicycles are here to stay.
I know that drivers would likely prefer to have less to worry about.
One obstacle less to deal with, while talking on the cell phone,
checking the make up or having another road rage moment.
But it is no use. Bicycles are here to stay.

The costs of owning a car are going up, public transit is expensive.
Meanwhile the cost of maintaining a bike is fairly stable and overall
inexpensive. As bike infra-structure slowly improves, more and more
cyclists will demand their fair space on city roads. And with that will
come a sense of ownership of road space.
As I ride along in a long row of cyclists on Harbord, I envision a big
increase in the number of cyclists in the next ten years. It remains
to be seen whether drivers will get the message. I believe the days
of hogging the road are numbered.
Let's hope for all of us that they will move over willingly.
Yeah, right.
