Ring Posts
It's such a simple
idea.
Take
something so boring, utilitarian and gray and
well, just paint it. And there
are thousands of them too.
No one needs more gray in a city
filled with asphalt,
concrete
and metal. Besides post and rings deserve a
better colour than gray. So
these guys dressed in work
suits and armed with Krylon
spray cans are taking them on.
One by one. Green next to a
park and pink in front of a
garden. I have seen dozens so
far. Over time the street
scape
becomes filled with colours. Bright bike frames locked
to fluorescent green post and
rings. Urban Beautification
Brigade they call themselves.
The city should hire these
guys. In the meantime, I will
buy them a few more cans
of
paint.
Update
greetings
from the 'City Beautification
Ensemble'
We are so glad that
you liked our work on the corner of Bellview Park -
you
had many good things to say
about the rings and posts in your diary
on
August 13. In your writing it is
clear that you 'get it', so to
speak.
Meaning that you understood
that "No one needs more gray in a city
filled
with asphalt, concrete and
metal. Besides post and rings deserve a
better
colour than gray." Our
sentiments precisley. Down with boring and up
the
city hiring us to do
this.
I'll have to admit the
market is already a pretty beautiful place
in
contrast to a number of its
neighbouring communities. But Kensington,
it
seems, is always on the way to or
from any destination and thats why
you
find a lot of our work there.
These rings and posts were painted with
a
brush as a part of our 'drop the
slop' campaign which we began last
spring.
I can remember as we were
painting these a couple of people walked by
and
said 'thank you' - which is
always nice. We're really looking to
continue
the Ring and Post program
in the spring of two thousand and
four.
- always looking for
suggestions for future sites, positive feedback and
of
course - free
paint.
cheers:)
