BioMechanics 101 (by Tomasz Ciesla)
On Saturday August
16th, while riding freestyle on my
bmx
I broke my left
leg.
O no no no, it's ok, it
doesn't hurt anymore thanks to the fine staff
of
Toronto Western
fracture clinic. Two hour surgery, four screws
and
10 mL of morphine
later the leg is back together and feeling
fine
:-) not exactly.
What seemed to me like a sprain turned to be
quite
a bad fracture.
so I spent the last seven weeks in a cast,
remaining
mobile for
most of the time. How? well with a combination of
cane,
hopping around a
little ( a lot not recommended ) and of course
riding
my
bike.
"That guy is
crazy", is the look that one with a leg cast &
cane
strapped through a
shoulder bag might get from strangers.
If
you've had your leg
in a cast before than you propably know
that
one block on
crutches is very slow and leaves you with a
full
body pain. How far
is your bank, or corner store. Anyway
the
point is that even
using one leg on a bi-cycle ( ha ha ) one
can
still get places
faster and more efficiently than with the
use
of other modes of
transportation. In my case it really is
the
only way to
continue to function 85%.
