Cyclist hit by taxi (by Paul Johnson)
I know this because the cyclist was
me.
Riding home at around
5:00 or so on College (Little Italy area)
a taxi rear ended me as he
attempted to pass me.
I was lucky because even though I
was thrown to the ground, I was
barely hurt at all and there
was another cyclist behind me who was
able to be a witness for the
police. Of course the taxi driver
refused to admit that he was
in any way responsible for what
happened and even seemed
unfazed when I begged him afterward
to please drive more carefully
in the future and watch out for
cyclists. Again I was lucky in
that the cop chose to believe
my version of events. He said
he was going to give the taxi
driver a $110 ticket.
That seems pretty
insignificant to me, considering
some of the fabricated tickets
given to cyclists.
