Can't See the Truth Through all the Forester - (by Michael Canzi)

A little story about what it is like to be a cyclist
in Victoria, BC.

A couple weeks ago, I read in the local paper that a
cyclist had been hit by car and was in hospital. The
newspaper article was short on details other than that
the victim was a 33-year-old male who had been riding
in the southbound lane of Vancouver Street when he
collided with a car in the northbound lane of
Vancouver that was making a left turn.

Nothing like a set of wheels, poll finds (Globe) (Response by Jake A.)

Globe Story
Jake's response:
The environics people who conducted this poll on behalf
of General Motors called me back in October, to ask about
my attitude toward my vehicle. But when they found out my
vehicle is a bicycle, they politely disengaged from the
conversation.

A real Haiku (by Levi Waldron)

Martino wrote

"Fall and sun
and bicycles

Maybe an espresso
(for the road)
A reprieve from November."

Hi Martin, I like your poem, although I thought Haikus were
supposed to be 5 - 7 - 5 syllables? Here's one I composed,
to help calm down an irate motorist after they've almost run
you over. However mine doesn't contain seasonal words, so
it's not exactly haiku either. Feel free to include it in
a bike lane diary if you'd like.

From the Great White North (by Amanda Mongeon)

The rules all change up here.

Sidewalks are too covered in snow and ice for even pedestrians
to use; it is a matter of necessity and quite normal for the roads
to be shared by everyone: cars, trucks, pedestians, snowmobilers,
and yes, cyclists. How wonderful.

Cycling is fun (by Anthony M. Humphreys)

Cycling is fun.

My wife and I both like to ride our bikes. We like to ride around our neighbourhood and around our city. We've even taken our camping gear along on our bikes and ridden long distances just for something to do. We live in a big city (Toronto), and on our bikes we can explore the city in ways that's just not possible with a car. My wife loves history, and I love trivia, and we ride around the city giving ourselves historical tours and odd bits of trivia about the buildings, neighbourhoods and other things we encounter along the way.

To spit or not to spit (by Darren Stehr)

It seems to be my week.

I was returning home from CM and I was coming up to a streetcar
that was just about to stop at Sherbourne. I slowed down only
to sense a car trying to get between me and the streetcar.

Hate (by Darren Stehr)

As I took up one lane on Queen St. E. a driver was very unhappy
with me and told me so with his horn. For some reason
the open and clear passing lane just was not for him.

Vince and the bike thief (by Marco Sepe)

(As told to me by Marco who in turn was told the story by ... you get the idea)

In front of the Dominion on College a bike thief is going for the steal.
It's a mountain bike he's after. But as luck would have it the owner of the bike
catches him just in time and confronts him.
