Process:  Resolution to Policy to Brief  -  your voice and vote counts

 

Resolution – a proposed policy on a topic of national concern raised by a member of Council

• reviewed by Council’s Board for discussion, revision, adoption
• accepted Resolution sent to the NCWC’s Resolutions Convener by mid-November
• Resolutions that have been raised by members and Councils across Canada are collated at NCWC and the resolution package is sent back to everyone in January for review and revision.
• at MCW’s March General Meeting Resolutions debated and accepted, amended or rejected, results forwarded to NCWC Resolutions Convener 
• final package presented for study, amendment and debate at the NCWC Annual General Meeting held in May/June

  e.g. 2008   Inadequacies in income transfer programs for low income seniors

• Council members may only speak onexisting policy when contacting the Government, the media or the public.                                                                          e.g. 2007 Protection of children from violent video games

Brief – a paper submitted to the government or an official body which states NCWC Policy and a course of action

            e.g. 2008 Need for reform of the Employment Insurance Program
