Planning Documents - 2001 Forest Management Plan
The Black River Forest is located in an area east of Lake Superior and is generally south, east and north of the community of Manitouwadge. Manitouwadge is the only organized community in the forest. There are no parks with official status on the forest although it shares a common boundary with White Lake Provincial Park to the southeast and Pukaskwa National Park to the southwest.
The forest is managed under
the authority of a Sustainable Forest License, which is held by Great West
Timber Ltd. The Black River Forest is located in the boreal forest, which
is dominated by mixed-wood sites. The conifer sawlog material on the unit
is largely processed at Great West Timber's sawmill in Thunder Bay.
