Description of the Gordon Cosens Forest
Gordon Cosens Forest Management
Planning Documents - 2005 Forest Management Plan
The Gordon Cosens Forest is located in the Ministry of Natural Resources Hearst District, in the Northeast Region. The Gordon Cosens Forest includes approximately 1.7 million hectares (ha) of Crown productive forest, and is located in the Boreal Forest Region in Northeastern Ontario, around the town of Kapuskasing Ontario. The forest provides timber for the mills of Tembec - Spruce Falls Operations, which are located in Kapuskasing, and for mills in Timmins, Hearst, Opasatika and Englehart. Tembec Forest Resources Management (Kapuskasing), carries out Forest management planning on the management unit under the authority of the Spruce Falls Inc. sustainable forest licence.
The Gordon Cosens Forest
is located in the boreal forest region. Tree species common to this forest
include, black spruce, trembling aspen, white spruce, balsam fir, jack
pine, white birch and cedar with lesser amounts of tamarack, balsam poplar,
red pine, and black ash.
