Long Term Care:
The Latest News
The government has not yet released any information about the anticipated new Long Term Care Act. The Ontario Health Coalition, working with local coalitions and other community groups held community hearings in February and early March in Windsor, Hamilton, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto. Over 850 people attended the initial set of hearings and presented submissions or told stories of the state of care in the long term care and homecare sectors. Three additional cities have asked for community meetings. The OHC and the Durham Health Coalition held a forum last week in Oshawa. London and Cornwall will be holding forums in the near future. A report based on the submissions of the first seven hearings will be released at the end of the month. For your copy, please call 416-441-2502 or email us at ohc@sympatico.ca.
