Golokwati SuSu
The name of our Feedback community centre is Golokwati SuSu.
The word Golokwati was used in a feature address by Kamau Brathwaite at the second conference on Caribbean Culture held in honour of his scholarly and literary contributions at the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.) Mona, Jamaica, in February 2002. Golokwati refers to a place in Ghana that is a crossroad meeting place for people from all the tribes in the region.
SuSu is a word, taken from Trinbagonianese vernacular speech that refers to a popular grassroots method of saving or banking money whereby, a minimum of four but usually more participants each put a certain amount of money every month into a common pool. Each month one of the participants in the SuSu collects the entire amount or "hand". The collection of the full amount or "hand" by each participant continues until everybody involved has had a turn at receiving the entire "hand".
I have put the two words together to convey the idea that what this community page represents is a crossroad meeting place for all tribes, peoples, races, religious adherents, cultures and spiritual seekers where ideas can be invested and shared.
Please enter AHANAIE's Golokwati SuSu section and enjoy.
