Foxfell is a residential co-operative community in Orillia, Ontario in which member families live in one-, two- or three-bedroom units.
Foxfell came out of a vision of living together in fellowship and service, recognizing the joy and benefits of sharing some aspects of our lives together.
We anticipate committing ourselves to:
We seek to make decisions by consensus.
Relationships are characterized by respect for individual differences, trust, clearness and openness. Our co-operative provides a context in which we explore our relationships with each other and the wider community.
Basic to the spirit of the community is an openness to resolving conflict between or among members. If two people have an unresolved difference affecting the on-going life of the group, they ask one other person, or a committee of selected persons, to help them resolve it.
Tenants have the privilege of sharing in aspects of community work and life.
The privacy of each person and family is carefully respected.
We seek to acknowledge our connection with the earth and our desire to live gently on her.
We seek to be a like-minded community where we may share in common concerns.
A variety of spiritual values and motivations among our members is acknowledged and respected.
We anticipate Foxfell members meet at least one evening a month to conduct any community business and interests.
Members share in the labour, e.g. outdoor work, for the satisfaction it brings, and to help the co-operative operate as economically as possible. Allowance of a small annual cost-of-operations increase under Ontario Government Regulations may be mitigated or avoided if residents take on the responsibility of maintenance that would normally have to be paid for. Older children are encouraged to participate in the work as well.
We have an opportunity to develop interests e.g. gardening, other activities, work sharing.
Foxfell is a co-operative, non-profit community incorporated in 1988 under Ontario’s Co-operative Corporations Act.
A property management board consisting of tenants and some non-resident Friends (Quakers) will function for financial matters.
Community business is conducted at monthly meetings of residential and non-residential members. This group constitutes the Board of Directors of the co-operative. If needed, additional meetings are called for committee work, e.g. environmental or energy, or to allow full communication among members around a particularly involved issue or in order to discover how to reconcile any opposing viewpoints.
A Foxfell resident member is someone who:
According to lease specification
Recreational use of snowmobiles, ATVs, or trail bikes is not permitted.
Guns are not permitted under any circumstances.
Rules related to safety are determined by the community, e.g. operating equipment.
The lack of outdoor personal space which could be used for chaining pets will limit pets to those which do not require such outdoor space.
