New Endorsements/Speakers


Justice C. G. Weeramantry, Vice President of the International Court
of Justice has agreed to speak at the Conference in May.

The Bangladesh government officially endorsed the Hague Appeal for
Peace and Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the Prime Minister, has
agreed to participate in the Hague Conference.

At a recent meeting in Durban, South Africa, the NonAligned Movement
endorsed a resolution supporting the Hague Appeal for Peace and the
UN Centennial activities that have been organized by the "Friends of
1999".

The United Nations NGO/DPI Executive Committee, representing 1,410
NGOs worldwide, formally endorsed the Hague Appeal for Peace.

The International Women's Tribune Center and The Hague International
Model United Nations (the largest model UN organization in the world)
have joined our Organizing Committee.

Kodak has agreed to work with a Dutch photo lab/studio to supply all
the materials needed to mount a photo exhibit at the Conference
provided we find a curator to help with this in May.

The World Medical Association has included an endorsement of the Hague
Appeal for Peace in their declaration to be adopted at their Assembly
Conference in Ottawa in October.

The renowned "Double Take" documentary film festival has agreed to
curate a series of films at the Hague in May.

Ms. Graça Machel, the United Nations expert on the impact of violent
conflict on children and Nobel Laureates José Ramos Horta and Joseph
Rotblat, on behalf of the Honorary Committee, signed the letter of
invitation for the Hague Appeal for Peace conference.

Recent Events

At the United Nations Annual NGO conference in September, Cora Weiss ,
President of the Hague Appeal for Peace and Bill Pace, Secretary
General of the Hague Appeal for Peace, were well received by
representatives from hundreds of NGOs during an information session
about the Hague Appeal for Peace.

The International Centre for Humanitarian Reporting in Switzerland
recently held a brainstorming session on "Conflict and the Media" in
preparation for the Hague Appeal for Peace.
