More on PreventionCancer rates in 1962 were 1 in 4. In 2004, they are 1 in 3 fow women and closer to 1 in 2 for men. "It's not about joining the polluted streams. It's about cleaning the streams, changing the stagnant pools into fresh, flowing waters." Bella Abzug, breast cancer activist (1920 - 1998)
Our Body Burden: Two highly respected US research organizations tested the blood and urine of nine 'average' Americans for toxicity, and found an overage of 91 industrial compounds, pollutants and other chemicals in their samples. The people tested did not work with chemicals on the job nor did they live near an industrial facility. Scientists refer to this contamination as a person's bosy burden. Of the 167 chemicals found in their bodies, and 76 cause cancer in humans or animals, 94 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 79 cause birth defects or abnormal development. The dangers of exposure to these chemicals in combination have never been studied.
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson (1962) It was Rachel who said, "For those in whom cancer is already a hidden or visible presence, efforts to find cures must of course continue. But for those not yet touched by the disease and certainly for the generations as yet unborn, prevention is the imperative need." www.rachel.org See also StopCancer.org
