Where the $$ GoOur first year goal is to raise $200,000. The first $100,000 is slated for the research and writing of a new book, Cancer: 101 Solutions to a Preventable Epidemic to be launched by New Society Publishers in Fall 2005. This is a major collaboration involving four writers; Dr. Peter Carter, MD, Dr. Sara Rosenthal, Liz Armstrong and project director Guy Dauncey, and drawing on the knowledge and advice of scores of health and policy experts from around the world. In exchange for funding from the Run, Walk & Roll event in Ottawa, the authors have agreed to give up all rights to royalties from book sales. These funds will in turn be used to seed other worthy cancer prevention projects. Additional funds raised in this 2004 event will go toward a major, international cancer prevention conference to be held at the time of the book launch in 2005, as well as the development of a powerful, action-oriented coalition for cancer prevention across Canada, the United States and beyond. A unique aspect of the First Annual Run, Walk & Roll for Cancer Prevention is the sharing of funds with grassroots groups if our runners/walkers/rollers choose to designate a share their ‘earnings’ from the event to a local cancer prevention project. For example, if a runner from the Windsor Cancer Prevention Coalition raises $5000 for the cause, 40% will go back to the local organization for its campaign to support the new Centre for Environmental Health of Ontario.
